CLOTHING DRIVE
For the past five years, we have provided warm clothing to children on the reservations. We will now continue this work all year long, focusing on children in emergency situations and ICWA cases.
While we prefer to only accept new clothing, some reservations will accept used in perfect, like new condition, without stains or ANY visible signs of wear.
We prefer new because we have had too many unfortunate situations to send used clothing out to families. Certainly one needs only to think of blankets infected with small pox to immediately understand why NEW is far preferable.
We have found that with the cost of shipping combined with the inconvenience of cleaning, boxing and making the trip to the Post office, it is far easier to purchase inexpensive coats from on-line retailers and have them sent directly. We also accept financial donations and purchase clothing and shoes at wholesale prices.
Please send clothing and goods to the reservation of your choosing. Please remember that the reservations in South Dakota are among the poorest counties in the United States. Unemployment rates are about 70-80% and most families support their relatives as well.
